Louis Sharpe is a promising Sydney-based conductor. He has worked with many community ensembles in Victoria and, since returning to Sydney, has been appointed Chief Conductor of the Eastern Sydney Chamber Orchestra.
Born and raised in Newcastle NSW, he began studying music from a very early age at the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music. At Newcastle Grammar School he discovered that the drums were his passion which led him to gaining a position at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School in 2007. In 2010 he completed his secondary education with a focus on orchestral percussion and conducting.
While studying at the University of Melbourne, Louis migrated towards conducting and co-founded the Hopkins Sinfonia of which he became the Music Director in 2013. After three successful seasons he conducted their last performance in late 2016. In early 2016 he won a position at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music to study conducting under the esteemed maestros, Eduardo Diazmunoz, Stephen Mould and Neil McEwan in the Masters of Music Performance degree which he completed in November last year.
Working with many different ensembles while exploring an enormous variety of repertoire provides many different challenges. Louis consistently strives to find new and exciting ways to successfully accomplish what the composer intended.
We warmly welcome Louis as our guest conductor and are looking forward to working with him as part of our exciting new season!
